How we look after your data. In plain English. Last updated: 23 October 2026.
Who we are
Conscious Diabetic is run by Brett Taylor. The data controller decides how your data is used, and is responsible for it.
Controller details are being finalised. Questions about your data: use the contact form.
What we collect
- Your first name and email address, when you join the list.
- What you are interested in (if you tell us).
- The page where you signed up.
- A record of your consent: the exact words you agreed to and the time. We also keep a scrambled code made from your IP address. We cannot turn it back into your IP address. It helps us stop spam.
- Anything you send us through a contact form.
Why we use it
The diabetes poll
If you vote, we save your choice for that month with a hashed random code, not your name, email or IP address. Your browser remembers a separate code for each month to avoid counting your vote twice. We keep monthly totals to help choose future stories and videos. Only combined totals are shown. Clearing your browser storage removes the codes from your device.
We use your details to email you about the book, new content and the community. Our lawful basis is consent. That means we only email you because you said yes. You can say no at any time.
How long we keep it
We keep your details while you are on the list. If you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you straight away. We keep a short record that you unsubscribed, so we never email you by mistake.
Who we share it with
We never sell your data. We only share it with companies that help us run this site:
- Hosting and database provider: Lovable Cloud (Supabase).
International transfers
Some of these providers may store data outside the UK or the European Economic Area. When this happens, we make sure there are proper protections in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access: get a copy of your data.
- Correction: fix data that is wrong.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your data.
- Objection: tell us to stop using your data.
- Portability: get your data in a file you can take elsewhere.
- Withdraw consent: unsubscribe at any time, using the link in any email.
To use any of these rights, go to Your data or use the contact form.
How to complain
If you are unhappy, please tell us first. You can also complain to a data protection authority:
- UK: the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), ico.org.uk.
- Spain: the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD), aepd.es.
