Short bio

Brett Taylor has lived with Type 1 diabetes since 1985, when he was five. Years of poor control led to around ten eye operations and the loss of the sight in his right eye, and he gave up his driving licence. Coming up to his 40th birthday, he set himself a 100-day challenge to change his relationship with diabetes. He dropped 9kg and halved his body fat. He went on to place 19th in the world in the 2022 CrossFit Open and 13th in 2023. His book, The Conscious Diabetic, is the diary of those 100 days.

Brett shares his story as The Conscious Diabetic: plain facts, the dark days as well as the good ones, and a simple method for living with Type 1: be conscious, measure, move every day, and own it.
